New Year's Resolution

Resolutions To Make This Next Year

‘Tis the season of the New Year’s resolution! Across the country, you will hear people begin to speak about ways that they want to change or improve themselves this next year.  Here are a few resolutions that we would like to recommend:

Learn Something New

After you graduate from school, you get your degree, but you also lose the title of Student. For many, they are so done with classes, tests, and papers that they are happy to let this title go. However, this mindset can allow you to miss out on a lot of things. First of all, it helps keep your brain more elastic, meaning that you continue to be able to learn. The saying, you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, only applies if you’ve allowed yourself to get to that point. But we suggest that as we start this new year, it may be good to pick up a new skill.

What have you always wanted to do, but never seemed to find the time for it? Maybe you’ve always wanted to learn how to be a better cook. Or maybe you wanted to pick up Spanish. Dedicated time to learn something new can change your life for the better. For us, we are looking at this as well. In 2018 we are going to be adding HVAC services along with our plumbing services. That’s a lot of new learning for us, but we are excited to see what new opportunities it affords us as well as new ways that we can service the communities that we love.

Be specific about your health goals:

The most common resolutions you may hear is “I want to lose weight.” Some will add the more positive spin saying “I want to eat healthier” or “Workout more.” While these are excellent goals, we want to point out that health looks different on every person. We all have our unique chemistry and genetic health history that causes us to need different markers for health.

One of the best things you can do is go to your doctor and speak about what you would like. They can help you formulate different diets, exercise plans and offer you various options that are better for you than what your friend Sally did that worked for her. Be specific about what you want and how you are going to accomplish it. If you spell this out clearly, you are more likely not to have this same resolution next year.

We hope that your New Year’s is terrific and that 2018 brings in the opportunities to be your best you.
